The restyling of your treasured jewellery!

When restyling one or more pieces of your jewellery into one, it is not essential that the jewellery is of all the same carat of gold. However, they have to make careful calculations to ascertain what carat, will be produced from the melt for hallmarking purposes.
The initial stage is careful removal of any stones, so that these may be re-used in the piece, if required. The gold is then cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner to remove any impurities, whi
ch could contaminate the gold. A careful check is made at this stage for any signs of lead solder, as this would completely ruin the gold on heating. The next procedure is to melt down the pieces of gold in a crucible with a borax flux, using a gas blowtorch, traditional technology! This is the stage at which extra gold is added if necessary.
