Chain preferably should be stored apart from one another to avoid tangling. Hanging chain individually is ideal, however laying them flat (without kinks) is just as acceptable. Thinner close link chains are susceptible to kinking which may be permanent, so it is especially important to ensure they are stored perfectly flat (or hung) without twists. You must also take care not to trap chain in the lid of a jewellery box as this can also cause kinks and breakages that can irretrievably damage it.

Storing pearls.
It is important that pearls are kept in a cool dark place. They should be stored in a cloth bag to guard against scratches and damage. Using a plastic bag for this is not appropriate as this will create an airtight environment, stopping moisture in the air reaching the pearl. Pearls should be stored away from gold or other metal jewellery to lower the likelihood of the pearls being scratched. Pearls have a high water content so it is important that they are not kept in a hot place. Over an extended period of time heat can cause a pearl to dry out and crack. After you wear your pearls, before you store them, give them a wipe with a soft damp cloth. This will clean off any substances (particularly perfume), that may cause damage to the pearl plus can help keep it hydrated.

Follow these simple rules and it can help you to keep your jewellery safe and give it as long a life as possible.
