Best way to store jewellery.

After you have been out, found and spent your money on that perfect piece of jewellery, you'll want it to stay looking great and new for as long as possible. This said however most people are probably not storing their jewellery in the correct fashion. The way you store your jewellery is very important, it can protect it from damage, and gives the piece as long a life as possible.

Storing gold and platinum jewellery.
Stone content, design and style play a large part in the appropriate way to store your gold and platinum jewellery. Ideally each individual piece of jewellery should be kept separately, however this is not always practical. When storing items together it is worth looking at whether the piece is stone set and with what stone. Gold and platinum are both relatively soft metals so can become scratched by harder gemstones (anything above 4.5 on the Mohs scale, meaning most gemstones used in jewellery). This is also true for gemstones, the harder gemstones can scratch the softer ones, and with diamonds being considerably harder than all other gems it is important that they should be kept separately. If gold items are allowed to 'knock' together in the box or storage area, it will scratch and dent as much as if it they are worn constantly.
