Pearl, due to its make up, is quite a soft item and is quite susceptible to damage. Due to their organic nature, pearls are vulnerable to damage from chemicals and acidic substances. Also like Opals, pearls contain water so if left in the heat or if infrequently worn they can dry out and crack. Regular wear can help combat the dehydration problem as the moisture from your skin and the air can dehydrate the pearl.
Moonstone is quite a soft stone and only rates a 6 on the Moh’s scale. This means moonstones can be easily damaged, however nicks and damage to the stones surface can relatively easily be polished out.
