Diamond, the birthstone for April
Colours
When thinking of Diamonds you immediately tend to picture a sparkling
translucent stone that twinkles in the light. This is generally the
case although more rare Diamonds do come in a variety of ‘fancy’
colours. They can be found naturally in such colours as pink, blue,
yellow, green and orange. but are extreemly rare. ‘Chocolate’
Diamonds are also naturally found and are becoming more popular.
Treated Diamonds, which exhibit the colours of the rare ‘fancy’
colours, are also available. It worth noting that there has been some
problems in the past with the treated pink Diamonds and their colour
stability.
Physical Properties
Measuring 10 on the Mohs scale, Diamond is not only the hardest gemstone
it is also one of the hardest substances known to man. In fact Diamonds
are so hard that when they are cut for jewellery other Diamonds have
to be used to grind the facets.
