What are chocolate and fancy coloured Diamonds?

A fancy coloured Diamond is one that is not classified as a 'white' Diamond featured in the colour grading chart of the four C's (grading scale of D-Z see our Diamonds article). A 'chocolate' Diamond is a name given to a 'fancy' coloured Diamond that exhibits a rich brown colour. Chocolate Diamonds are also known as 'Cognac' Diamonds as well as several other names.
Fancy and 'Chocolate' Diamonds have the same physical properties as white Diamonds, with the same issues such as clarity and cut still affecting their quality. The colour that a fancy Diamond exhibits is as a result of impurities in the molecular make up of the stone, the colour of that impurity gives the Diamond its coloured hue.

In what colours can you find fancy coloured Diamonds?

Fancy colour Diamonds can be found in such colours as pink, blue, yellow, green and orange but are extremely rare. Black Diamonds are also found and are being used more often in Jewellery making today, although these generally do not display dispersion and clarity is not an issue.
